The process
How WhatEyeColor.com works
From two eye photos to a unique AI artwork in under a minute — here's what happens at each step.
Photograph your iris with your phone
Open the app on your phone and tap the camera button — no extra equipment needed. The in-browser camera lets you capture a close-up of your own eye and one of another person's directly from your phone. Prefer to use an existing photo? You can upload one from your gallery instead.
AI fuses both irises
Our AI analyzes the fiber patterns, color gradients, and texture of each iris, then synthesizes a new composition that weaves both together. This is not a simple overlay — the model reads the structure of each eye and constructs a single unified image from the ground up.
Preview your free artwork
Your fusion appears as a free preview. Scroll through the composition, inspect the detail, and see how the two irises have merged. No payment is required at this stage.
Read your iris profile
While your artwork generates, the AI reads your iris and produces a full profile: your eye family (one of eight worldwide), an anatomy diagram mapping your pupillary, collarette, ciliary and limbal zones with their exact color, and a personalized rarity score showing how distinctive your iris is compared to the global population.
Unlock the full collection
A one-time payment unlocks the full-resolution artwork download, three additional AI-generated style variants, and the complete iris profile with color palette, structure analysis, geography data and a written portrait of your eye.
Getting the best photo
Photo quality is the single biggest factor in output quality.
Distance
Fill the frame with the eye — get close enough that the iris takes up most of the image.
Lighting
Soft, even light works best. Avoid a single light source that creates half-shadow across the eye.
Sharpness
The iris detail is what the AI reads. Tap to focus on the eye before shooting.
Eye open
Keep the eye fully open. Partially closed lids obscure the iris and reduce output quality.
Reflections
A specular reflection across the pupil or iris can confuse the model. Angle the light slightly off-axis.
What makes a great fusion?
The AI reads both irises as a source of visual vocabulary — fiber direction, color band placement, limbal ring contrast, crypts and furrows. Irises with strong contrast, vivid color, or distinctive pattern complexity produce the most striking fusions. But there is no such thing as a boring iris: every pair produces something unique.
Mismatched iris colors — one blue and one brown, or one green and one hazel — tend to produce the most visually arresting compositions, as the AI must find a way to honor both palettes simultaneously.
